Federal Contractors

Federal contractors are, as a condition of receiving federal contracts, subject to rules not applicable to other employers who do not hold federal contracts. Depending on the date and value of the contract, a variety of additional requirements may apply. Federal grant recipients are also subject to additional, yet different requirements.

      • Drug Free Workplace Rules- The Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 applies to all organizations with grants from a U.S. Federal agency. Furthermore, all organizations with contracts with U.S. Federal agencies must comply if the contract is:
          • In the amount of $100,000 or more;
          • Not for the acquisition of commercial goods (i.e., it is a procurement contract or purchase order); and
          • Performed in part or in whole in the United States.
          • Individuals- All individuals with grants or contracts from any U.S. Federal agency are covered by the Act, regardless of dollar volume.
